1903

On 1 May 1903, the then 30-year old Franz Scheurle founds the FRANZ SCHEURLE silverware factory in Schwäbisch Gmünd. The main items being produced and exported throughout the world are walking stick and umbrella handles, which have come into fashion through the Paris World's Fair. Pictures

The 1920s

In the 1920s, QUINN moves over to producing small silverware, such as cigarette cases, powder compacts and other silver gift items.  Increased exports protect the company during the inflationary years of 1920/21. After the sudden death of the company founder, Franz Scheurle, in 1929, his son Gerhard Scheurle takes over the running of the company and faces up to the economic challenges of the 1920s with entrepreneurial initiative: he stops selling wholesale, and goes directly to specialist retail jewellery dealers, while continuing to develop the company's export business. The 1940s

After the Second World War, the company has 50 employees. The commodity, silver, is scarce. Pictures

The 1950s and 1960s

The 1950s are boom years: the small silverware and gift item programme is expanded. Napkin rings, bottle and glass coasters, thimble cups, bottle stoppers, keyrings, lipstick cases, pillboxes and photo frames - all made from 925 sterling silver. QUINN discovers the market for men's jewellery and begins to offer an innovative programme. The fast-growing trends of the 1960s have one thing in common: jewellery plays an important role as a fashion accessory. The Scheurle company adapts to this trend: at the end of the 1960s the first collection of women's jewellery is successfully launched. Pictures

The 1970s and 1980s

In 1972 Gerhard Scheurle hands over the running of the company to his son Franz F. Scheurle and his son-in-law, Dr. Christoph Boden. The new owners concentrate even more on jewellery production. At the beginning of the 1970s, Franz F. Scheurle and Dr. Christoph Boden create the QUINN brand and expand the women's jewellery collection. On the constant search for attractive additions, QUINN discovers 925 sterling silver watches and further enhances the collection. Christmas 1974: move to the new production and office building in Gutenbergstrasse. In the 1980s the range is further expanded with the addition of the precious metals, gold and platinum. Pictures
